COVID-19 Update

With the current situation surrounding the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) outbreak, we have setup our news page to give the latest updates on the measures we are taking to minimise risks to our staff, customers and the general public across our various services.

This page will be updated as new recommendations and information is released by the Government, Public Health England and The Department for Transport.

Cycling Services Updates
One-to-One Cycle Training
Following government guidance, our one-to-one cycle training sessions for children and adults were relaunched on Saturday 23rd May 2020. Following strict social distancing guidelines (see below), our instructors will remain 2m apart from participants and will avoid all contact with participants and equipment (where possible).
School Bikeability Training
The Bikeability Trust, who manage the Bikeability programme on behalf of The Department for Transport (DfT), are in discussions with the DfT to relaunch Bikeability training. We envisage being able to deliver training to small groups of school pupils at some point in June. In preparation for this, we have revised our risk assessments, health and safety policy and emergency procedures to include social distancing and hygiene guidelines (see below).
Instructor Training
We anticipate relaunching our 1st4Sport accredited cycle instructor qualifications and courses in July. As part of this, we are investigating having outdoor classrooms where possible in addition to the practical outdoor sessions.
Business Services
We are able to deliver any one-to-one or outdoor services such as cycle training to employees in line with social distancing guidelines (see below). We hope to be able to recommence delivering cycle seminars in outdoor settings from July.
Our sister company, Outspoken Cycles, are also able to deliver a range of one-to-one services such as Dr Bikes, bike hire/purchasing and bike maintenance training. Please get in contact with them directly for more infomation.

Following government advice on social distancing, all Outspoken Training office staff will still be working from home for the forseeable future.

As a result of these operational changes, we currently don't have an active telephone line. If you would like to get in touch, please can you email us via

Our office staff are all still working their regular hours and will respond to your email query within 1 working day.

Please note, our sister companies, Outspoken Cycles and Zedify Cambridge, will still using the office for operational purposes and therefore are open as usual.
Effective Infection Protection and Control
Instructors will:
  • not deliver any training if they or a member of their household has or has had Covid-19 symptoms within 14 days;
  • wash their hands regularly and thoroughly using soap and hot water or 70%+ alcohol hand rub or sanitiser. This will include before and after every session as well as before and after handling equipment/resources/paperwork;
  • practice good respiratory hygiene including carrying tissues to catch cough and sneezes;
  • wash/clean any equipment such as hi-viz tabards lent to participants each time they have been used; and
  • place any award materials, resources, etc into a sealed envelope and advise school staff, parents/guardians and/or participants to not touch or open this for 72 hours.
We will ask participants to:
  • get in touch immediately if you or a member of your household has or has had Covid-19 symptoms within 14 days;
  • inform us if they are living with anyone who is clinically vulnerable;
  • email completed consent forms to the office ( at least 5 working days before your session;
  • provide your own bike and helmet (if wearing one) for the session. We are unable to loan equipment;
  • check over cycles, helmets and equipment before the session to reduce the likelihood for our instructors to make minor adjustments;
  • bring your own hand sanitiser and tissues and something to carry this in e.g. a backpack together with any medication, drinks, snacks, suncream etc you may need for the session;
  • wash hands and equipment, before and after each session; and

Social Distancing Procedures
Instructors will:
  • implement stringent physical distancing requirement maintaining 2m from all participants, other instructors and other people such as school staff, parents/guardians, etc at all times;
  • avoid participants cycling as a large group;
  • prevent participants cycling in the slipstream of other cyclists (where possible);
  • select training sites to ensure their is sufficent space for participants, instructors and members of the pupil to maintain 2m distance from each other; and
  • not teach in enclosed or indoor spaces.
We will ask participants to:
