Final Bikeability Plus Pilots Launch

The summer term is here and it’s time for Outspoken Training to launch 3 new Bikeability Plus projects.

Over the coming weeks 13 primary schools from across Northamptonshire, Cambridgeshire and Peterborough will enjoy the thrill and excitement of a range of cycling based activities designed to encourage more children, teachers and parents to cycle to school more often.

Previous projects have seen the number of children cycling to school at least once a week rise by as much as 700%.

After enjoying a fun filled whole day launch event, that includes a try out show and pedal powered disco, weekly activities will include:

  • Balance bike training developing core balance skills for foundation years
  • Learn to ride sessions for non-riders, learning a new life skill.
  • Maintenance lessons creating new mechanics in Years 5&6

Our project officers Robin Brisley, Lizzie Hole and Matt Butler regularly deliver Bikeability levels 1 & 2, but in preparation for the different activities all attended a CPD training day and a bike maintenance course to become Velotech Gold qualified mechanics.

The launch shows in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough are already underway with Northamptonshire kicking off on the 16th May 2016 with 2,527 pupils participating.

Thank you to Cambridgeshire County Council, Peterborough City Council and Northamptonshire Highways for their support with helping us deliver these pilots.
