If you're an individual National Standards Instructor and looking to join an ITO, then read what we offer below and use the form at the bottom of the page to register your details. Membership is free to all those who have completed a four day National Standard Instructor course, provided membership is renewed on an annual basis (you will be prompted about this) with details of any CPD training courses you have completed in this time.
We'll keep you in the loop
We produce a quarterly newsletter that serves to provide an update on the latest news and any changes to the National Standard that instructors should be aware of. It's also used to keep members up to date on what’s happening in the Eastern region. If instructors need to be updated urgently between newsletters, we will contact them via email.
As an ITO we attend all the regular ITO meetings to ensure we keep up to date with developments with cycle training and also to play an active role in the development of cycling. We are a full member of The Assoication of Bikeability Schemes (TABS) and one of our colleagues, Michael Frearson is a Director.
We'll provide learning opportunities
We offer a program of continuing professional development and a number of courses to help develop instructors’ skills that will concentrate on specific areas relevant to instructing. This might be working with groups that have physical or learning difficulties and therefore need some assistance on best working practice for special educational needs. Or it may be a specific need for training in another area that would support an instructor’s role, such as a bike maintenance course. We also encourage instructors to evaluate each course using a feedback form to enable us to continuously improve the service we offer.
We hold instructor’s professional details on file. This includes instructors' level and NSI number as well as details of any CPD courses undertaken in the past 12 months.
At all times, instructors are encouraged to contact us for support. Our team of experienced instructors, mentors and assessors are on hand to assist with all enquiries. We can also arrange peer reviews and organise visiting speakers to talk on relevant topics.
We provide a 'verification service' to the public who may ask for details of instructor’s credentials. We do this in strict accordance with our data protection policy.
